“LinkSafe was a torch shining light into a darkened area. They helped address a failing system created by a previous provider. LinkSafe proved to be excellent. They delivered what we wanted – even if we haven’t used the system to its full capabilities yet. It’s made life a lot easier for our Technical Officers to engage and supervise contractors and ensure they are properly compliant”.
– Robert Hunt, OHS Advisor, City of Geelong.
Gateway to the world-renowned coastline of south-west Victoria via the Great Ocean Road, Geelong is located 75 kilometres south-west of Melbourne.
Geelong covers more than 1,247 km2 of land. Made up of suburban, coastal, and country areas. Greater Geelong is bounded by the Moorabool Shire in the north, Wyndham City Council and the Borough of Queenscliff in the east, Surf Coast Shire and Golden Plains Shire in the west, and Bass Strait to the south.
The region is characterised by the multi-award winning Waterfront overlooking Corio Bay, the picturesque Bellarine Peninsula, the Barwon River, You Yangs Regional Park, wetlands, beautiful parklands and wildlife sanctuaries.
It was a paper-based management system that was riddled with holes and enormous challenges which placed great demands on technical officers within the Greater City of Geelong.
The City of Greater of Geelong are now using LinkSafe’s Contractor Management Systems for all aspects of their operational needs.
“Before engaging LinkSafe, I knew of them through my previous role with Metricon. I understood how LinkSafe worked. When I arrived at The City of Greater Geelong, another system was in place. One far more inferior and problematic. I called on LinkSafe and we haven’t looked back since. Our Contractors now know what is exactly expected of them and how we operate.”
The City of Greater Geelong needed to improve how it engaged with its contractors and how it managed and identified whether they were compliant and where they were on-site at any given time.
How did The City of Greater Geelong do it? From the moment LinkSafe was engaged Hunt says, “it was all upwards from then on. It was enabled effective and efficient management of contractors and knowing when and if they were not compliant – these were critical to managing the expectations of engaging with Contractors.
“LinkSafe have transformed the way we operate and manage our Contractors. They have helped create a new mindset, a new approach to the way we work and how our Contractors work, and the expectations required of them.”
Hunt says, “LinkSafe’s systems helped us introduce effective induction programs where we were able to ask all contractors to pre-qualify, ensuring they were all fully certified and competent to carry out the jobs they were required to do.”
The other benefits are the QR Code when contractors are on site. We know when they arrive and when they leave, whether they are certified and whether they are not. LinkSafe’s systems have allowed our Technical Officers to have up-to-date information at their disposal.
They have been remarkable in delivering and meeting all of our needs.”
According to Hunt, LinkSafe through their Contractor Management System have worked miracles.
“It has significantly improved relationships between The City of Geelong and its Contractors. They know what we want, and we are able to ensure all of the requirements are up-to-date and compliant.
Support from LinkSafe has been outstanding. They’re a wonderful company.”
